Mission

About the Website

The goal of this website is to provide a research community focal point, educational resource, and clearinghouse for integrated freely-available scholarly information and software related to the science of human exposure.

We aspire to join a growing group of established websites that offer freely-available educational and scholarly material, including the Environmental Health Perspectives scientific journal, the Public Library of Science, MIT Open Courseware, the Connexions Project, and Light and Matter physics textbooks.

The concept of open access to scholarly information is a growing movement. There is currently an online directory of open access scholarly journals, which lists thousands of journals that are now freely available to the public. You may be interested in an article that discusses motivations for funders in encouraging open access journals.

One of our goals here at ExposureScience.Org is to foster interaction and communication among scientific researchers or students who are interested in participating in an independent forum on human exposure modeling, or who are simply interested in learning about the field of exposure or current research developments. Those in related fields may also find it useful to have a consolidated repository of sophisticated exposure-related software tools and information.

Think about this: Aren't we as scientists interested in encouraging free and open inquiry around the world and in encouraging new minds to participate and contribute to human knowledge? Why shouldn't the fruits of scientific research be available to any member of the human species, regardless of geographic location or income level?

Since the philosophy of our website is the free and open sharing of information and software, we anticipate that the documents and software we host will be made available under a free license, such as the GNU GPL, GNU FDL, or one of a variety of Creative Commons licenses.
